Rod Chisholm – Chief Executive Officer
Rod has extensive experience in the Defence force, in senior management and operations roles with a large multi-national in Australasia and the Middle East and more recently with consulting on both capital and maintenance projects in both public and private sectors. He has qualifications in management and strategy together with an abiding life-long interest in regenerative farming and land care that originated from dairying in Victoria’s Western District in his youth. He aims to boost our production of good, relevant case studies, strengthen our networks and share the knowhow.
John Leggett – Operations Manager
John served 26 years in the Australian Regular Army followed by some 24 years as a management consultant for government, private
and international programs. Throughout his career he has gained much experience as a senior manager, management consultant,
manager educator and project manager. Since 2010, he brings this extensive management and organisational experience to
his role at Soils for Life.
Richard Thackway - Researcher
Richard is a research scientist with over 30 years’ experience in classifying, assessing and reporting on Australia's landscapes
and natural resources. His research has been adopted by regional, state and national land use policy and planners and land
managers. Richard is Visiting Fellow at ANU, UNSW ADFA and an Adjunct Associate Professor at UQ.
Terry Harkness - Project Manager
Terry is a qualified accountant (CPA) with more than 30 years’ experience in a variety of industries including manufacturing,
retail, hospitality, mining and waste recycling. Moreover, he has worked as an operations/quality safety and environment
manager for the green waste recycling industry and played voluntary treasury roles for Landcare Illawarra and Repower Shoalhaven.
Niree Creed - Media adviser
Niree Creed has been a journalist, public relations expert and media adviser for over 40 years, and she brings all that experience
to her role as Media Adviser at Soils for Life. Much of her television background has involved agriculture and rural affairs.
This new role combines her passion for agriculture and her experience in extending the work of Soils for Life to a wider
Don McDonough - School gardens
Don has been associated with Michael Jeffery for some 60 years. Upon retirement in 2009, he joined Michael Jeffery to gather
soils ‘data' for use in his initial activities in this area. On the establishment of Soils for Life, Don sought, recorded
and filed soil and water information. More recently, he began managing the School Gardens Program.
Madeleine Florin - Social media
Madeleine brings her combination of research and communication experience to Soils for Life. She has worked for eight years
in soil science, agronomy and farming systems research, in both Australia and the Netherlands. More recently she has worked
on the interface of research and practice, building bridges between researchers, policy makers and land managers through
communication tools on print and web media.
Greg Hosking - Researcher
Greg Hosking graduated from the Australian National University with a Bachelor degree in Forest Science. He has previously
worked on wildlife research programs for the ACT Parks and Conservation Service and a Professor from The Australian National
University. He is from a cattle and sheep farming background and enjoys returning to the family farm as often as possible.
