JEFF KENNETT: PRIME MINISTER SHOULD MAKE SOIL AND WATER A NATIONAL PRIORITY

In a video recorded for Soils for Life (https://youtu.be/uBeMPwAwOw0), Mr Kennett says his simplest hope would be for Australia to have a Prime Minister who actually believes in water and therefore soil.

“Unless you’re the Prime Minister or the Treasurer or the Premier and the Treasurer, you  have little real influence”, Mr Kennett says.

“We should have a very clearly defined water policy, and we should therefore have an obvious national soil policy and a very natural obvious agriculture policy”.

“We’re at the anchor point of Asia. Above us live 4 billion people and we should have a target by 2050 to be able to feed 1 billion of those 4 billion people”

“Right now we’re arguing about a range of other issues of minutia in our community but none are nearly as important for the totality of our society than having a national water policy and therefore a national soils policy”.

“A healthy soil is about water. Water is equally necessary for the quality of the soil as it is for human life. So, therefore, apart from the air we breathe, there’s no more important substance for soil and life than water”, Mr Kennett says.
